For carers and loved ones

You are part of this battle too. Recognition, and ways to look after yourself.

Facts checked against NHS sources 23 Oct, waiting for Daz (only shown on dev)

To everyone who supports someone on artificial nutrition: this page is for you. Carers and loved ones are not only there for the medical side. You are the comfort, the laughter, and sometimes the only hand to hold on the hard days.

It takes real strength to be there through every setback, to lift someone's spirits, and to deal with the moments that nobody else sees. Without you, this would be a very different battle.

Your feelings matter too

Caring can bring worry, tiredness, guilt, grief and sometimes resentment, all mixed up with love. Many carers feel they cannot say any of this out loud. You can say it here. Those feelings are normal, and they do not make you any less caring.

Looking after yourself

  • Take breaks, even short ones. Ask family or friends to cover so you can rest.
  • Keep up something that is just for you.
  • Talk to other carers who understand. Our community welcomes families and friends.
  • Tell your GP you are a carer. They can offer support and check on your own health.
  • Check whether you can claim Carer's Allowance or other help. Citizens Advice or GOV.UK can tell you what you might be entitled to.
  • Ask your local council for a carer's assessment. It can lead to practical help and support.

For the unseen warriors

To the ones who stand steady, through day and long night,
With hands held in silence, or whispers of light.
You are the keepers of courage, the bearers of grace,
Guiding loved ones through battles few others will face.

In the quiet of late hours, when the world is asleep,
You listen to fears that run silent and deep.
Though the journey seems endless, the burdens unkind,
It's your strength, your love, that keeps hope redefined.

Through changes and setbacks, your patience stands tall,
As you're there in each stumble, and catch every fall.
With a heart full of kindness and arms open wide,
You remind us of love, our fierce, faithful guide.

So here's to the heroes who walk every mile,
Who stay through the sorrow, and bring forth the smile.
To the ones who lift burdens too heavy to see,
Thank you for the light, the heart, and the key.
