When life revolves around feeds, deliveries, appointments and line care, it is easy to forget about yourself. Self care is not a luxury or a treat. It is part of staying well.

Why it matters

Looking after your mind and body lowers stress, helps you cope with the hard days, and gives you more energy for the people and things you love.

Start small

  • A few quiet minutes a day that are just for you.
  • Gentle movement if you are able, such as a short walk.
  • Time outside, even just sitting in the garden or by an open window.
  • Something creative: music, drawing, writing, photography.
  • A regular bedtime routine, as far as your feeds allow.
  • Saying no sometimes, and protecting your time and energy.

Pick one thing and try it for a week. Then add another. It is the small things done often that make the biggest difference.

That is the idea behind Well-being Wednesday: one day a week set aside for looking after you.
